The new Volvo V90 Cross Country – the rugged, 'Allroad' take on Volvo's new big estate – can now be optioned with the Polestar Performance Package.
Volvo's new 90 Series cars – XC90, S90, V90 and V90 Cross Country – have redefined 'Premium' cars in the last year or two, with a simple Swedish take on luxury and comfort an appealing alternative to Nurburgring-honed German premium territory.
So it should be no surprise that when it comes to creating performance versions of it cars that Volvo has taken a different route from the Germans and Jaguar, despite bringing Polestar in-house at Volvo as their performance arm.
Instead of offering big lumps of extra power for their performance upgrades, Volvo prefer to concentrate on improving the mid-range, with tweaks to the gearbox for faster shifts and better throttle response.
So the arrival of the Polestar Performance Package for the new Volvo V90 Cross Country won't be about creating an alternative to the anticipated RS6 Avant Allroad, but making the Cross Country a bit more responsive and a bit (and we mean a bit) more lively.
Niels Möller, COO of Polestar, said:
To include the V90 Cross Country, a true adventure crossover, in our optimisation programme is a vital part of our operation to further expand on Volvo Cars' new SPA vehicle architecture.
Our product provides performance-oriented customers with a new level of driving pleasure.
The Polestar Performance upgrade is available on both the D4 and D5, with the D4 getting an extra 10bhp and 22lb/ft, the D5 just 5bhp and 10lb/ft.
Volvo hasn't given us prices, but we assume they're pretty much in line with the £835 for the S90/V90 and the XC90.
